112 is the telephone number for emergencies. 112 offers a range of services from firefighting, ambulances, maritime distress, crime protection, and more.

GNR – Police

The Republican National Guard (GNR) is a security force made up of military personnel responsible for public security, maintaining order and protecting public and private property

GNR shares the responsibilities of policing in mainland Portugal with the Public Security Police (PSP) who are more responsible for larger urban areas and the Guarda who are responsible for rural areas

Bombeiros – Fire Brigade

The Bombeiros are responsible for more than firefighting and are mainly consist of volunteers!

Services include:

Transportation of vulnerable patients to and from hospital

Water transport eg. filling pools, irrigation and sanitation.  Pumping water and emptying tanks
